Dee Schaefer, Front Desk and Reception

IMG_4675Dee (short for Donna) Schaefer is best described as, “Eclectic”. Her first car purchase at 18 had a cracked engine block – unbeknownst to her. She simply took the engine apart until she found the problem. After rebuilding the engine herself, she took it to Bandimere to play Drag Queen.

She’s accidently remodeled a bathroom and varnished all of her kitchen cabinets. The remodel started with a cracked faucet handle and snowballed from there. The kitchen cabinets happened to get in the way of a fully loaded varnish brush after completing another project – again, unintentional.

Learning to use machine shop tools at the knee of her Jack-of-all-Trades father, she expanded into basic construction tools after moving into a fixer-upper. Her husband still tells the story of coming home to find her with an armload of carpeting, and announcing with a grin, “Look Honey, we have hard wood floors!” Sanding floors should be a once-in-a-life-time experience, but their second fixer-upper has hard wood floors too … and ugly bathrooms to re-tile … and a cramped kitchen to expand … and some walls begging to be torn out.

Donna attended Colorado Institute of Art in the Advertising Design Program, then returned to school to get an Associates Degree in Architectural Design. When the housing market slumped, she returned to night school and picked up another Associates Degree in Mechanical Drafting, which required a year of Machine Shop – there’s something exciting about the odors of hot oil and fresh metal shavings.

Before jumping on the Baby Bumper Bandwagon, she played Assistant Architect for one of the casinos opening in Black Hawk. Working in the high energy environment of Lost Wages can be addicting and Donna opted to get her gaming license and dealt Black Jack for several months until the owners decided there wasn’t going to be a phase two construction. Just so you know, the dealer always wins.

Once the kids no longer needed noses wiped and hands held – their idea not Donna’s – a job seemed like a good idea. Donna chose to combine her love of art, and passion for painting and color into a Faux Painting business. That’s how she meet Donna Sigmond. Sigmond was in the midst of her build-out for the new business location. The tiny details, such as the dragonflies by the front door, the Qi character in the restroom, and the lettering over the treatment rooms along with a few accent walls were the finishing touches to Sigmond’s project. It was entertaining to have two Donna’s on a construction site, as they both answered whenever they heard their name called.

Donna has the mind-set that happiness is not based on a glamorous career with a fancy title and a bunch of zero’s in the salary. Donna’s eclectic journey is ongoing, and working in Sigmond’s healing space appealed to Donna’s desire to learn more about Eastern medicine and the magical properties of acupuncture. Donna explained, “I’d rather work in a calm place with people who are rich in heart joy, than work for wealthy egotistical manholes who have sour milk in their mustache every day.”

Dina Sue Yan, Massage Therapist

Hello, my name is Dina Sue Yan. In Chinese it is 燕.

I am a traditionally trained Chinese Massage Therapist who came to America in December of 2009 to build a better life for myself and my family. I am doing just that by treating clients with my unique form of Chinese TuiNa Deep Tissue Acupressure Massage 推拏.

I was trained in China at the Beihai Tuina Occupational Training School in Guangxi Province. The training is an extensive instructional and apprenticeship program working on patients in the attached therapeutic hospital side-by-side with the master practitioners. After my training was completed and certified I was hired to work at the Xianjue New Medical Chiropractic Hospital where I continued to work until I came to America.

I love my work and I love to continue integrating new processes and techniques into my treatments to help my clients. Restoring balance to your health and well-being is what gives me joy and satisfaction with the work that I do. I really like to help people. My clients have always been delighted with my work, I hope that you will be too.

I am licensed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China and by the State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as a Massage Therapist. I am an ABMP, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, Certified Member since receiving my credentials in the USA.

I continue to learn and improve my English skills every day as I adapt to my adopted country. Please be patient with my accent as your muscles relax, align, and balance returns to your day.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

In my spare time I love to cook Chinese food and socialize with friends and family.
